XC40 Rear Ventilation Flap Fault
Summary of the thread
A 2019 Volvo XC40 hybrid experienced issues with the AC not cooling properly, with an error indicating a rear ventilation flap fault. The problem was suspected to be related to a bad connection, specifically with the flap actuators. After consulting with a workshop, it was confirmed that a faulty connector on the rear ventilation flap actuator was the cause, and the issue was resolved for 95€.

Flap actuators? I'm not sure. Where were they located in your 3 Series? Was it a pain to get to them?

Yeah, it was the flap actuators. Not fun to replace, being buried under the dash. If the Volvo's anything like my old car, it could be a similar story. It's probably worth getting it checked out by a workshop to pinpoint the exact problem with their diagnostic tools. Better than throwing parts at it.

Appreciate the insight. I booked it in, and it was indeed a dodgy connector on the rear ventilation flap actuator, just like we suspected. 95€ later, it's sorted! Glad I didn't tackle it myself!

Rear ventilation flap, huh? Sounds familiar. I had a similar issue on my old BMW 3 Series. The automatic climate control went haywire with the same symptoms: error code and warm air. Does the Volvo use those little flap actuators for the rear vents?
