XC60 Cooling Grille Restricted Error

Help! My 2021 Volvo XC60 hybrid is acting up. The display sometimes shows weird temperatures, the check engine light is on, and it takes ages for the engine to warm up. The garage mentioned something about a 'cooling grille restricted' message. Anyone seen this before? Could a fuse really cause all this?

Summary of the thread

A 2021 Volvo XC60 hybrid displayed a "cooling grille restricted" error, with symptoms including erratic temperature readings, a check engine light, and delayed engine warm-up. The issue was suspected to be related to the active grille shutters, which could be stuck, affecting the car's thermal management. A faulty temperature sensor was identified as the root cause, and replacing it resolved the problem.

I've had similar issues with my XC60. Those symptoms sound familiar. The cooling grille issue could be related to the active grille shutters – they're designed to improve aerodynamics and warm-up times. Are they visibly stuck closed, even when the engine's warm?

Active grille shutters, huh? I'll check them out. But if they were stuck, wouldn't the engine overheat eventually? The temperature gauge seems normal once it finally warms up. Also, where would I even find the fuse for those shutters?

Yes, overheating could happen eventually, but the car's thermal management system is pretty sophisticated; it might be compensating. Honestly, messing with fuses without knowing exactly what you're doing can cause more problems. I'd suggest getting it checked by a workshop. In my case it turned out to be a faulty sensor, and they had to recalibrate the whole system.

Thanks! That's really helpful. I'll book it in for a proper diagnostic. The sensor issue makes sense. Turns out the "cooling grille restricted" error was due to a defective temperature sensor. The workshop replaced it for 52€ and everything is back to normal!
