XC60 Engine Jerking Whistling

I'm having major issues with my 2020 Volvo XC60 hybrid. It's got about 211k km on it. The check engine light keeps popping on, and the car is jerking like crazy when I try to accelerate. Plus, there's this weird whistling noise, almost like a loud hissing, when I put my foot down. Sometimes it even stalls at idle! My fuel consumption has gone through the roof, and the engine just feels weak. Any ideas? Could it be the pressure sensor?

Summary of the thread

A 2020 Volvo XC60 hybrid is experiencing engine jerking, a whistling noise during acceleration, stalling at idle, and increased fuel consumption. These issues could be related to the turbo system, possibly due to a cracked hose or loose connection in the air intake or turbocharger, affecting boost pressure. It is suggested to inspect these components and consider checking the boost pressure sensor, as a faulty sensor or connection could cause similar problems. Taking the vehicle to a workshop for a professional diagnosis is recommended.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Whoa, that sounds rough! I had something similar happen in my XC60 (not sure if the same year), and it drove me nuts. That whistling and hissing sounds like it could be related to the turbo system. Have you checked the air intake or any of the hoses connected to the turbocharger? It might be something simple like a cracked hose or a loose connection on the intake manifold.

Thanks for the quick reply! I haven't really poked around too much under the hood, to be honest. I'm not super mechanically inclined. When you say 'air intake' and 'hoses,' are those easy to spot? And would a loose connection really cause all those problems?

Yeah, the air intake is usually a big plastic tube going into the engine, and you should see some smaller hoses branching off of it. A loose connection or a crack, even a small one, can mess with the boost pressure and cause all sorts of mayhem, especially with the turbo. It's worth a look, but honestly, with all those symptoms, especially the stalling, you might be better off taking it to a workshop. A bad boost pressure sensor can cause a lot of headaches and could be related to defective cable or plug connection of the component. In the end it just cost me 95€ to fix.

Thanks so much for the advice! I think you're right, it's probably beyond my limited skills. I'll take it to a shop and mention the boost pressure sensor and the hoses. Hopefully, it's something simple and not too expensive. I really appreciate the help!
