XC60 Engine Oil Temperature Sensor Fault

I've got a 2018 Volvo XC60 hybrid with about 95k km on the clock. Recently, a warning light popped up and diagnostics show a faulty engine oil temperature sensor. The oil pressure warning lamp occasionally lights up too. I've checked the basics, like oil level, but no luck. The error memory also stores the fault. Any ideas?

That sounds familiar. I had a similar issue with my old BMW 3 series, though it was the coolant temperature sensor instead. The symptoms were almost identical – warning light, error code, and all. These sensors can be a pain. Have you checked the wiring and connections to the sensor itself? Sometimes it's just a loose or corroded plug.

Thanks for the tip! I did give the plug a quick look, but didn't see anything obvious. When you had the problem with your BMW, was it the sensor itself that was faulty, or was it definitely a wiring issue? I'm trying to figure out if I should just replace the sensor outright.

In my case, it turned out to be a corroded connector. The mechanic explained that road salt and grime can get in there and mess things up. I'd suggest getting a proper diagnostic check before replacing the sensor. Could save you some money and hassle. Considering the oil pressure lamp lights up, it might be worth visiting the workshop to exclude serious engine issues.

Thanks a lot for the advice! I took it to the workshop, and you were spot on – it was a defective cable/plug connection. They cleaned it up and replaced a small section of wiring. Total cost was 95€, which is way better than a new sensor and fitting. Appreciate the help!
