XC60 Hybrid Gear Shift Failure

Alright, Volvo gurus, I'm pulling my hair out here. My 2020 XC60 hybrid is throwing a fit. It's got about 109k km on the clock, and suddenly the gear shift indicator on the dash is completely dead. Like, lights out, nothing. Now, the fun part? It's not just the display. The car refuses to engage gears properly. It's slipping, shifting all clunky, and sometimes makes this awful grinding noise like a coffee grinder full of rocks. I even scanned it and it's spitting out errors like a politician makes promises. Anyone seen anything like this before? Feels like a bad sensor or some gremlin in the automotive electronics...

Sounds rough! I had something similar happen with my XC60 (although not the hybrid version). My gear selector went haywire, and the dash display was just showing random stuff. I could still drive, but it felt like the transmission was arguing with itself every time I shifted. Have you checked any of the fuses? It might be a long shot, but it's a cheap place to start.

Fuses, huh? I hadn't thought about that. Which fuse panel should I be digging around in, and do you remember which fuse it was? Also, did your symptoms include the car basically refusing to shift at all sometimes? Because that's where I'm at now – completely dead in the water.

Honestly, I can't recall the exact fuse number. I just remember checking all the ones related to the transmission and dashboard. But yeah, it eventually got to the point where it wouldn't shift at all. Limped it to the workshop, and they diagnosed it as a faulty control unit. Best to get it properly checked out, as it could save you more damage down the line.

Ugh, control unit... that's what I was afraid of. Sounds like a trip to the workshop is definitely in order. Thanks for the info; at least I have a better idea of what I'm potentially looking at. Wish me luck – my wallet's already crying. They quoted me around 1000€ for the repair, seems like a defective control unit is the issue.
