XC60 Immobilizer problem

My 2009 Volvo XC60 diesel (173697 km) has an immobilizer issue. The engine won't start consistently, sometimes starts briefly then stops. Diagnostic scan shows an error, but I don't have the code right now. Could incorrect key programming be the problem?

Sounds familiar! I had something similar happen with my XC60. Anti-theft system light was going nuts, and the engine wouldn't stay running. Key programming, huh? Did you try the spare key, just in case?

Yes, I tried the spare key, same problem. I'm skeptical about an immobilizer bypass and want to avoid it. Is there something specific about the key programming or anti-theft system I should investigate? What fixed your problem?

Okay, if the spare key didn't work, it's probably not just a bad key. Honestly, I chased my tail for a while trying to figure it out. Eventually, I bit the bullet and took it to the shop. They sorted it out pretty quick, definitely something with the immobilizer needing a reset or reprogramming or something. Best of luck!

I appreciate the insight. It seems a workshop visit is unavoidable. Turns out, the key programming was indeed incorrect. 45€ later, the issue is resolved. Thanks for guiding me to a solution.
