XC60 Weak Battery and Flickering Lights

My 2023 Volvo XC60 hybrid has a weak battery on start, with flickering lights. Diagnostics suggest a defective battery sensor. Mileage is 239282 km. Anyone seen this?

Interesting. I have an XC60 too, and I had nearly identical symptoms a while back. I was pulling my hair out trying to figure it out. I did all the usual checks – battery charge, alternator output – everything seemed fine on the surface. But those flickering lights were driving me nuts!

Could you elaborate on how you resolved the problem? Were there any specific voltage readings or diagnostic codes that pointed to the battery sensor as the culprit?

Certainly. I initially suspected the same things as you, but after more in-depth diagnostics, my mechanic pinpointed it to the battery sensor itself. Apparently, it was sending incorrect voltage readings, which caused the charging system to act erratically. Honestly, I was about to throw a new battery in it, but thankfully he steered me clear. It's not always obvious, is it? I'd recommend getting a proper diagnostic test done to confirm, rather than chasing ghosts.

Thank you. Following your advice, I had it inspected at a certified workshop. The battery sensor was indeed defective, and replacing it resolved the issue. The total repair cost was 315€. Your insights were invaluable.
