XC70 ABS Lamp and Traction Problems

Hey, I have a 2002 Volvo XC70 with a gasoline engine and I'm having a weird issue. The ABS lamp keeps lighting up, and I'm experiencing traction problems. It feels like the ABS system is failing intermittently. The odometer seems to be working fine. Any ideas what could be causing this? I've heard something about a speed signal fault but am unsure if it's related.

I had a similar issue with my XC70, though I can't remember the exact year. The ABS light and traction control were going crazy. Have you checked the wheel speed sensors? Sometimes a faulty sensor can throw off the whole system. Does the dashboard show any other errors besides the ABS light?

Thanks for the reply! I haven't checked the sensors myself, to be honest. I'm not really sure where to start. Could it be something with the ECM or some other control unit? And do you remember how many kilometers you had on the odometer when that happened to you?

It could be a control unit, yeah. In my case, it ended up being a defective ABS control unit. Unfortunately, it's not something you can easily diagnose without the right equipment. I'd recommend taking it to a trusted workshop to get it properly checked. It's likely to cause the traction issues you're describing. It cost me around 1000€ to fix.

Thanks. I appreciate the advice! I'll take it to the shop and have them check the ABS control unit. I was afraid it was something like that, considering how much the parts cost. I will let you know how it goes. Hopefully, the repair cost will be around the same. Thanks again!
