XC70 Alarm Siren Communication Error

Hey, I've got a head-scratcher with my 2003 Volvo XC70, gasoline engine. The car's got about 160k km on it. I'm getting an error related to the siren communication, and the alarm system is completely non-functional. I'm seeing 'cable or plug connection defective' as a likely culprit. Anyone else run into this? I'm trying to avoid a huge bill, but the shop quoted me 95€ already just to diagnose.

I had a similar issue with my XC70. It ended up being a pain to track down. Have you checked all the connections under the hood and near the siren itself? Sometimes those connections get corroded or loose. Also, did you try resetting the alarm system?

Thanks for the quick reply! Where exactly is the siren located, and how would I go about resetting the alarm system? I don't want to mess anything up worse than it already is.

The siren is usually behind the wheel arch liner, on the right side. You'll need to remove the wheel and the liner to get to it. As for resetting, I couldn't figure it out myself. I brought it to the shop and they did something with their diagnostic tool. It might be best to just bite the bullet and let them take a look.

Appreciate the info. Sounds like I'm heading to the shop. At least I have a better idea of what they'll be looking for. Thanks again for the help!
