XC70 Alarm Siren Communication Error
Summary of the thread
A 2003 Volvo XC70 is experiencing a non-functional alarm system with an error indicating a siren communication issue, potentially due to defective cable or plug connections. Possible causes include corroded or loose connections, particularly near the siren, which is located behind the wheel arch liner on the right side. Suggested solutions include checking and securing these connections and possibly resetting the alarm system, though professional diagnostic assistance may ultimately be necessary.

Thanks for the quick reply! Where exactly is the siren located, and how would I go about resetting the alarm system? I don't want to mess anything up worse than it already is.

The siren is usually behind the wheel arch liner, on the right side. You'll need to remove the wheel and the liner to get to it. As for resetting, I couldn't figure it out myself. I brought it to the shop and they did something with their diagnostic tool. It might be best to just bite the bullet and let them take a look.

Appreciate the info. Sounds like I'm heading to the shop. At least I have a better idea of what they'll be looking for. Thanks again for the help!

I had a similar issue with my XC70. It ended up being a pain to track down. Have you checked all the connections under the hood and near the siren itself? Sometimes those connections get corroded or loose. Also, did you try resetting the alarm system?
