XC70 Auxiliary Battery Alarm

The auxiliary battery hasn't been replaced since I bought the car, so it's at least nine years old. I haven't checked the voltage myself. I haven't seen any other electrical issues. Could you explain how to check the voltage and what readings I should expect?

Nine years is definitely over the hill for that battery. To check the voltage, use a multimeter. You're looking for around 12.6 volts with the engine off. Anything below 12 is a red flag. Even if it reads okay, it's probably on its way out given its age. Replacing it is likely your best bet. If you're not comfortable doing it yourself, a workshop can easily test and replace it. The replacement fixed everything for me. Seems like the alarm systems are really sensitive to voltage drops.

Considering the battery's age and the symptoms, replacement seems best. I'll take it to a workshop for a battery check and replacement. The estimated repair cost is around 330€. Thanks; your experience helped guide my decision.

I had a similar issue with my BMW. Same symptoms - alarm system acting up and a warning about the auxiliary battery. Turned out the battery was indeed shot. How old is your auxiliary battery? They usually last 3-5 years max. Have you tried checking the voltage to see if it's holding a charge? Did the car throw any other weird electrical issues before the alarm went haywire?
