XC70 door lock issue
Summary of the thread
A 2010 Volvo XC70 had a door that could no longer be locked or unlocked, suspected to be due to a fault in the door contact signal. The issue was likely caused by a defective cable or faulty plug connection within the door's wiring harness. A similar problem in another vehicle was resolved by inspecting the wiring harness for breaks, particularly where it bends with door movement. The problem was confirmed and fixed at a workshop, restoring the central locking functionality.

The XC70 does indeed have a wiring harness connecting the body to the door, much like the Astra you described. Given your experience, could you elaborate on how you pinpointed the break in the wiring? Was it a visual inspection, or did you employ specific diagnostic tools?

I tried to fix it myself, but I wasn't able to. Finding the exact spot where the wire was broken was tricky; it was hidden within the protective sleeve. You'd need to carefully inspect each wire. In the end, I took it to a workshop to fix it. From what you describe, it sounds like you might have the same problem, so I would do the same.

Following your suggestions, I brought the Volvo to a reputable workshop. As you suspected, the issue stemmed from a defective cable within the door's wiring harness. The repair, including parts and labor, amounted to 95€. The central locking is now fully operational again. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

Sounds like a similar issue I had with my old Vauxhall Astra. The symptoms were identical - the door wouldn't respond to the central locking. In my case, it turned out to be a break in the wiring harness where it passes from the car body into the door. Does the XC70 have a similar setup? Is the wiring exposed to constant bending when the door is opened and closed?
