XC70 Engine Stalling at Idle
Summary of the thread
A 2014 Volvo XC70 experienced engine stalling at idle and a check engine light, potentially due to a tank ventilation valve malfunction and clogged hoses. The issue was suspected to be related to the purge valve, which, if faulty, could cause a vacuum leak affecting the air-fuel mixture. The problem was confirmed and resolved at a workshop, where the tank ventilation valve and hoses were repaired, restoring the vehicle's performance.

Thanks for the reply! I checked the gas cap; it seems fine. No hissing sounds either. Could a faulty purge valve really cause the stalling issue, or is that more of an emissions thing?

A faulty purge valve can definitely cause stalling! If it's stuck open, it can create a vacuum leak that messes with the air-fuel mixture, especially at idle. Given your symptoms and the mileage, I'd lean towards a ventilation issue. You could try cleaning the hoses yourself, but honestly, it might be best to take it to a workshop for a proper diagnosis to avoid messing things up further.

Thanks for confirming my suspicion. I took it to the shop, and it was indeed the tank ventilation valve and some clogged hoses. Repair cost 175€. Runs perfectly now!

Hmm, a stalling engine and a check engine light could be a number of things on a 2014 car. Have you checked your gas cap? Is it on tight? Also, have you noticed any hissing sounds when you open the gas cap? It could be a pressure sensor issue, or even related to the purge valve in the emission system. When was the last time you had the car serviced?
