XC70 IAT Sensor Issue

I'm hoping someone might be able to offer some insight into a problem I'm experiencing with my 2009 Volvo XC70, gasoline engine. Recently, the check engine light illuminated. I've noticed a reduction in engine power and a somewhat rough engine running. A diagnostics check revealed an error pointing towards a possible issue with the intake air temperature. Is it possible that a faulty IAT sensor can cause these symptoms?

I had similar symptoms on my XC70, though I didn't run diagnostics myself. Felt like the engine was breathing through a straw. Have you checked the sensor's wiring for any obvious damage or corrosion? Sometimes it's just a loose connection.

Thank you for your reply. I did perform a visual inspection of the wiring, but found nothing amiss. Given that you had a similar experience, could you elaborate on what the root cause was in your situation?

In my case it turned out to be a faulty IAT sensor. Given your symptoms and the error code, it's highly probable that you are dealing with the same issue. Consider having the sensor tested by a workshop. Much like a doctor with a stethoscope, they have the tools to confirm and fix the problem.

Thank you again for sharing your experience. It seems that your assessment was spot on. I took the car to a workshop, and the diagnostics confirmed a defective IAT sensor. The repair set me back 155€, but the car runs perfectly now.
