XC70 Ignition Problems

I am having a frustrating ignition issue with my 2002 Volvo XC70 diesel. With 188984 km on the clock, the engine sometimes refuses to start. Other times, it cuts out while driving, or runs rough. I've checked the usual suspects, but could a defective fuse be the cause? Any thoughts?

Summary of the thread

The 2002 Volvo XC70 diesel experienced ignition issues, including failure to start, engine cutouts, and rough running. A potential cause suggested was a defective fuse. After investigation, the problem was resolved by replacing a faulty ignition switch fuse, which cost 52€.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

I had similar symptoms with my old Saab 9-5. The ignition switch itself was the culprit. Does your XC70 have any other electrical oddities when this happens, like the radio cutting out or the dashboard lights flickering?

That's interesting. No flickering lights that I've noticed, but the radio does occasionally cut out briefly. Was it a difficult repair on your Saab? Did you need a new ignition coil or starter motor?

It wasn't a coil or the starter motor. It was definitely the ignition switch. Given the symptoms, I'd advise getting it checked by a workshop. It's probably safest to get it professionally sorted.

Thank you for the insight! It turned out to be a faulty ignition switch fuse. Replacing it for 52€ seems to have solved the problem. I appreciate the help!
