Thanks for the quick reply! I haven't removed it yet, but I did a quick visual and didn't see anything obvious. Where should I be looking for these 'visible signs'? Any specific areas on the manifold or gasket that are prone to failure?

Given the symptoms and the error code, combined with my experience, I suspect a leaking intake manifold. Visible scorching might be difficult to spot without removing the manifold. To avoid complications, consider having a professional mechanic diagnose and repair it. It's difficult to say where the leak is from without a thorough inspection.

Appreciate the confirmation and advice! I took it to my mechanic. Turns out the intake manifold was defective, likely from scorching as I suspected. The final bill was 1180€, parts and labor included. Ouch! But at least she's running smoothly again.

I had a similar experience with my XC70. Have you inspected the intake manifold itself for visible signs of damage or leaks? A leaking intake manifold gasket could explain those symptoms.
