XC70 Overheating
Summary of the thread
A 2007 Volvo XC70 diesel is experiencing overheating issues, primarily when stationary, leading to suspicions that the electric fan isn't functioning. The problem may be due to a defective cable or plug connection to the fan motor, as a similar issue was resolved by addressing these components. It is recommended to consult a professional mechanic to diagnose and fix the problem effectively.

Yeah, it's mostly when I'm not moving much. I haven't actually heard the fan come on at all, even when the temp gauge is getting a bit high. Where exactly was the problem on yours, and how did you solve it?

Sounds very familiar. I also never heard the fan working. Honestly, I didn't troubleshoot it myself - too many other things going on. I took it to a workshop. They said it was a defective cable or plug connection to the motor. Since you don't hear it running at all, I'd suggest going to a professional, it could be a similar issue. They fixed it for 95€, so it wasn't too bad.

Okay, that's useful. I'll book it in with a local garage then, give them a heads up about the cable and plug. Thanks for the help!

I had something similar with my XC70. Is it overheating consistently, or just in stop-and-go traffic? Mine was fine on the open road, but the temperature would creep up when stationary. Does the fan kick in at all, even when the engine is hot?
