XC70 passenger seat failure

Passenger electric seat on my 2016 Volvo XC70 diesel has stopped working. I get an error, and it's impossible to adjust the seat. I've checked the fuses and disconnected/reconnected the battery, but no luck. Could this be a faulty seat motor or something wrong with the seat harness?

Summary of the thread

The passenger electric seat on a 2016 Volvo XC70 stopped working, displaying an error and preventing adjustment. Initial checks of fuses and battery reconnection did not resolve the issue, leading to speculation about a faulty seat motor or harness. However, it was suggested that the problem might be due to a power issue related to the battery's health. After testing, the battery was found to be degraded and was replaced, which resolved the seat issue.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Sounds like a power issue. Have you checked the battery's health? A heavily discharged or defective battery can cause all sorts of weird electrical problems. Power seats need a good, strong current to operate. You might want to get it tested before digging into the seat itself.

Thanks for the quick reply! That's interesting, I hadn't considered the battery. I assumed it was okay since the car starts fine. But, you mentioned 'battery health'. Is that different from just having enough charge to start the engine? How would I test that? I am a total novice when it comes to electrics.

Yes, battery health refers to its ability to deliver consistent power under load, even if it can still start the car. It could be providing enough amps to start but not enough for a power seat. Given that and the error message, it is difficult to know without proper diagnosis, so I would recommend a workshop.

Thanks so much for the advice. I had the battery tested, and you were spot on! It was heavily degraded and needed replacing. After a new battery and diagnostic check at the workshop, the seat now works perfectly! The total cost was 290€, but it fixed the problem. I really appreciate your help!
