XC70 Smoke on Acceleration
Summary of the thread
The issue with the 2001 Volvo XC70 involved smoke during acceleration and a warning light, suspected to be caused by a faulty exhaust back pressure sensor. The problem also resulted in reduced engine performance. Replacing the sensor resolved the smoke issue and cleared the warning light, restoring normal vehicle function.

Yeah, the engine definitely feels sluggish. Did you end up replacing the sensor? And did that fix the smoke?

Yes, replacing the sensor fixed the issue. However, I had it done at a workshop.

Thanks for confirming! I bit the bullet and took it to the shop. They replaced the exhaust back pressure sensor for 245€, and it solved everything! No more smoke, and the warning light is gone. Really appreciate the help!

I have an XC70 too, and I had a similar problem. Warning light and everything. Is your engine performance also down?
