XC70 Transfer Case Limp Mode
Summary of the thread
A 2007 Volvo XC70 diesel with 188k kilometers is experiencing issues with the transfer case being stuck in limp mode, along with gearbox slipping and unclean shifts. These problems may be linked to faults in the ABS system, which can cause consequential faults in the control module. The suggested solution involves visiting a workshop for a diagnostic check, which led to resetting and recalibrating the control module due to a known software glitch, resolving the issue without cost.

Yes, it does feel like the torque converter might be the issue. I don't have the means to check for diagnostic codes myself. But given what you said, do you think it's still worth investigating the ABS system first before looking at other possible causes?

Given the symptoms and potential links to the ABS, it's worthwhile considering. However, without a proper diagnostic, it's hard to pinpoint. If you're not able to check the codes yourself, your best bet might be taking it to a workshop.

Thanks for the advice. Turns out a workshop visit was needed. I had to have the control module reset, and then recalibrated. Thankfully, because it was related to a known software glitch, it didn't cost anything!

I've seen similar issues on the XC70. Does it feel like the torque converter isn't locking up properly? Have you checked for any diagnostic trouble codes related to the powertrain?
