XC70 Water Sensor Issue

Hey, I've got a perplexing issue with my 2013 Volvo XC70 diesel. The check engine light is on, and diagnostics say it's the water sensor. It's running rough, especially on cold starts. I'm wondering if it's a bad cable or connection. Has anyone else had a similar water sensor problem? Any ideas on how to troubleshoot?

Sounds familiar. I had something similar with my Opel a few years back. Turned out to be a corroded connector on the sensor itself. Have you checked the connection for damage or corrosion? A 'water sensor' detects water, like in the fuel filter. The error message hints at a fault in the sensor's electric circuit. Worth a closer look.

Thanks! When you say 'corroded connector,' do you mean directly on the water sensor, or somewhere else in the wiring harness? I want to check the right spot. A wiring harness is an assembly of wires and connectors that transmit electrical power or signals.

Yeah, in my case, it was the connector right on the sensor. Hard to see at first, but there was a lot of corrosion. Cleaning it helped for a bit, but the problem came back. I ended up taking it to a shop to fix it properly. I'd suggest you do the same.

Thanks so much for the advice! I checked the connector more closely and found corrosion too. I took it to my mechanic, and the water sensor cable was indeed bad. They replaced it, and the repair was 95€. The check engine light is off, and it runs smoothly again. Thanks again!
