XC90 AC Not Cooling
Summary of the thread
The 2021 Volvo XC90 hybrid's AC is not cooling and won't switch on. The relay was checked and found to be fine, leading to suspicions of a pressure switch issue or refrigerant leak. A similar case involved faulty valves within the AC unit, which required professional diagnosis and repair. The suggested solution is to take the vehicle to a workshop for a thorough check of refrigerant pressure, leaks, and compressor functionality, with a potential repair cost of around 1000€.

Thanks. No strange noises before it failed. How would I check the AC efficiency?

Good about the noise; odd sounds can mean compressor issues. Checking AC efficiency without tools is tricky. Compare the vent air temperature on a hot day to when the AC was new. A big drop means reduced efficiency, but since yours failed completely, that might not matter. Given the symptoms and relay check, it sounds like a pressure issue or something internal. My issue was faulty valves within the AC unit. Take it to a trusted workshop for diagnosis. They can check refrigerant pressure, look for leaks, and test the compressor. Replacing the valves cost me around 1000€.

Thanks for the information and advice. I'll take it to a workshop. I appreciate you sharing your experience and the potential cost. I will report back with the resolution once it's diagnosed and repaired. It was indeed the valves, costing 1000€.

I have an XC90 too. I had similar symptoms last summer when the AC just stopped. Did you notice any strange noises from the AC compressor before it failed? Have you checked the AC efficiency recently? A gradual decline can indicate a different issue than a sudden failure.
