XC90 Active Hood Fault
Summary of the thread
A 2017 Volvo XC90 owner reported an "Active hood fault" message and an airbag warning light, with error memory indicating an issue with the active hood system. The problem was identified as triggered spring actuators, potentially due to a faulty sensor. A similar case suggested the acceleration sensor might be defective, which was confirmed upon workshop diagnosis and subsequently replaced.

The message is constant, it's there every time I start the car. No front-end work recently and no impacts that I'm aware of. Could it be a faulty sensor?

Sounds like it. In my case, the acceleration sensor was defective. That triggered the whole system and threw the same errors you're seeing. You'll probably need to visit a workshop to get it diagnosed and replaced. It's part of the crash detection/pedestrian safety system.

Thanks for the info! I took it to the workshop, and you were spot on – faulty acceleration sensor. Repair cost me 315€. Appreciate the help!

I had a similar issue with my XC90. Active hood faults are a pain. Does the message appear constantly, or only sometimes? Have you had any front-end work done recently, or any minor impacts?
