XC90 AdBlue System Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2015 Volvo XC90 diesel owner experienced issues with the AdBlue system, where the vehicle indicated an empty tank despite being refilled, accompanied by an error message and sometimes a failure to start. The problem was suspected to be with the AdBlue delivery from the tank to the dosing unit. A suggestion was made to have the system pressure tested, as a faulty pressure sensor could cause such errors. The issue was confirmed at a service center, where the defective AdBlue output was repaired.

Thanks. Can you tell me more about the pressure test? Can I do it with a standard OBD-II scanner, or do I need special tools?

Some advanced OBD-II scanners might give pressure readings, but a full diagnosis usually needs Volvo-specific equipment. Given the symptoms, I'd suggest a qualified workshop. They can find the exact problem.

Thanks for the advice. I took it to a service center, and you were right, the AdBlue output from the tank to the dosing unit was defective. The repair cost 250€.

I've had similar issues with my XC90. The AdBlue system can be sensitive. Have you had the system pressure tested? A faulty pressure sensor can trigger those false empty tank errors.
