XC90 Auxiliary Heater Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2023 Volvo XC90 diesel is experiencing an issue where the auxiliary heater won't activate, and an error related to the heating system is stored in memory. The suspected cause is a defective glow plug, which can disrupt heat control. A similar issue was resolved by replacing the glow plug, suggesting this as a potential solution. Taking the vehicle to a workshop for proper diagnosis and repair is recommended.

No specific codes displayed on the screen, but the reader pointed towards an issue with the heater core. Was that your experience too? Did replacing the glow plug solve the problem for you, or was it something else?

Yep, that sounds exactly like what I went through. I didn't try fixing it myself. I took it straight to the workshop. They confirmed it was the glow plug for the auxiliary heater and replaced it. Problem solved. Best to get it checked out properly.

I appreciate you sharing your experience. I'll take it to the shop. They quoted me around 440€, which sounds reasonable. Hopefully, it's just the glow plug and nothing more serious with the heating system!

I had something similar happen in my XC90, though I can't remember the year. The ventilation system seemed totally messed up, and the auxiliary heater wouldn't kick on. Was it throwing any specific codes?
