XC90 diesel glow plug issue
Summary of the thread
The conversation revolves around a 2010 Volvo XC90 diesel with a persistent preheating lamp and an error stored in the memory, suggesting a potential glow plug issue. A similar experience shared by another individual indicated that a faulty glow plug could cause the check engine light to stay on, reduced fuel efficiency, and rough engine starts, especially in cold weather. The recommended solution is to have the vehicle checked at a workshop to confirm the diagnosis and proceed with necessary repairs.

Thank you for your reply. I appreciate the information. I have not specifically monitored fuel consumption, but I will pay closer attention. Could you elaborate on the symptoms you observed besides the check engine light? Any other performance issues?

No problem! Besides the check engine light and the fuel consumption, the engine was a bit rougher when starting, especially in cold weather. Given your symptoms and the error code, it's highly likely a glow plug issue. I'd recommend getting it checked at a workshop to confirm. Mine ended up costing around 440€ to repair all glow plugs.

Hi there! I have an XC90 as well and had a similar issue last year. The check engine light stayed on, and I noticed a drop in fuel efficiency. Turns out it was a faulty glow plug. Did you notice any difference in your fuel consumption or engine combustion?
