XC90 Diesel Particulate Filter Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2019 Volvo XC90 diesel with nearly 230,000 kilometers is experiencing reduced engine power and noticeable smoke during acceleration, suggesting a potential issue with the diesel particulate filter (DPF). These symptoms, along with decreased fuel efficiency and an illuminated engine light, are classic indicators of a DPF problem. A diagnostic test confirmed the DPF issue, leading to a costly replacement. Proper vehicle inspection and diagnosis are recommended to address the problem effectively.

Fuel efficiency has taken a hit, yeah. Engine light's been on for a bit now. Did you ever get yours hooked up to a diagnostic machine? And if so, did it point to the DPF right away?

Yep, diagnostic confirmed it was the DPF. Bit of a costly fix if it's truly buggered, so definitely worth getting a proper vehicle inspection. Mine ended up needing a full filter replacement.

Cheers. Sounds like I'm heading for the same fate. Workshop confirmed it: knackered DPF. 1550€ for the privilege. Thanks for the heads-up!

Sounds familiar. I had similar symptoms with my XC90 a while back. Reduced power and smoke are classic signs. How's your fuel efficiency been? And has the engine light come on?
