XC90 Hybrid Reduced Engine Power

I'm having issues with my 2017 Volvo XC90 hybrid. The check engine light is on, and the engine power is noticeably reduced. It feels sluggish, and there's a weird whistling noise, almost like a loud hissing sound when I accelerate. It's even stalled at idle a couple of times, and my fuel consumption has definitely gone up. What could it be? Has anyone experienced anything similar?

Summary of the thread

A 2017 Volvo XC90 hybrid is experiencing reduced engine power, a check engine light, increased fuel consumption, and a whistling noise during acceleration. Possible causes include issues with the turbo system, such as a faulty boost pressure sensor, turbo actuator, or electrical bypass valve. It is recommended to have the vehicle diagnosed by a professional to identify and resolve the issue effectively.

Sounds frustrating! I had a similar experience with my 2014 Audi A4 a while back. Reduced power, weird noises... the whole shebang. Have you checked your boost pressure sensor? It might be a faulty turbo actuator or the turbo wastegate is playing up. Does it feel like the turbo isn't kicking in properly?

Boost pressure sensor, huh? Where is that even located, and how would I check it? I'm not very mechanically inclined. Is that something I can easily inspect myself, or am I looking at a trip to the shop?

Unless you're comfortable working around the turbo system, I'd recommend taking it to a workshop. It could be a defective electrical bypass valve. I tried fiddling with mine, and it just made things worse. The problem with my Audi was exactly that, and the repair cost around 250€. Better to get it diagnosed properly to avoid further damage.

Thanks for the advice! I suspected it might be something I couldn't easily fix myself. I'll take it to my local shop and mention the electrical bypass valve and turbo actuator. Hopefully, it's a relatively straightforward fix like yours was. Fingers crossed!
