XC90 Oil Pressure Warning

I have a 2016 Volvo XC90, gasoline engine, with 88203 km on the clock. Recently, the oil pressure warning lamp has illuminated, accompanied by loud mechanical noises from the engine. Could this indicate a defect in the oil pump?

Low oil pressure, huh? Had similar issues with my old Saab 9-3. The warning light flickered, and the engine sounded like a bag of spanners. Did you check the oil level? And what about the oil filter, is it clogged?

Oil level is within the specified range. I have not inspected the oil filter yet. Could a clogged oil filter truly cause such a drastic drop in oil pressure?

Well, it could contribute. In my case, the filter was partially blocked, but the underlying problem was worn engine bearings. You know what I'd do? Just take it to a workshop, they will know what to do.

Thank you for the insight. It was indeed the oil pump. Repair cost 755€.
