XC90 power window failure after battery replacement
Summary of the thread
After replacing the battery in a 2016 Volvo XC90 hybrid, the power windows stopped functioning, and an error was stored in the memory. This issue is likely due to the window regulator losing its initialization, a common problem after battery changes. Simple re-initialization by holding the window switch may not suffice, and a proper reset using Volvo's VIDA software at a workshop is recommended to resolve the issue.

Thanks for the reply! I tried holding the window switch up, but nothing happens. When you say 're-initializing', do you mean something more than just holding the switch? Is there a specific procedure?

Yes, unfortunately, if the simple holding-the-switch method doesn't work, it's more involved. The Volvo system sometimes needs a proper reset with diagnostic tools. The car's computer (ECU) stores settings, and a drained battery can scramble things. Since the windows don't work at all, a fuse issue is unlikely. I would recommend taking it to a workshop; the error code will likely point to a regulator needing to be reset using Volvo's VIDA software, which allows mechanics to communicate directly with the car's computer.

Thanks for the advice! I took it to a workshop as you suggested, and it turned out the window regulator initialization had failed, like you said. They reset it using the Volvo software. Cost me 290€, but at least it's fixed now.

Greetings. I have a similar Volvo XC90 and have experienced power window issues after battery replacement. It sounds like the window regulator lost its initialization. The regulator is basically the system that controls the movement of your window. Have you tried re-initializing the window regulators? Usually, you do this by holding the window switch in the 'up' position for a few seconds after the window is fully closed. Check your manual, but does that work?
