XC90 Stalling Reduced Engine Power

Alright, I'm stumped. My 2016 Volvo XC90 with a gasoline engine is giving me fits. Check engine light is on, it stalls at idle sometimes, and I'm getting seriously reduced engine power. I recently changed the fuel filter, and I'm wondering if I messed something up – maybe got an error entry somewhere. Any ideas? Could it be the fuel regulator?

I had a similar issue with my XC90 a while back. Same symptoms: check engine light, stalling at idle, and a noticeable drop in power. Did you notice any change in fuel efficiency or any unusual engine misfires before all this started?

Yeah, come to think of it, the fuel efficiency has been a bit off lately. Misfires are definitely happening, especially when I'm accelerating. Was it definitely the fuel regulator on yours? How much did that set you back? I'm seeing a pressure drop in VADIS.

In my case, the root cause was indeed the fuel pressure regulator, and the symptoms you describe align almost exactly with what I experienced. However, considering that the error entry started after you recently changed the fuel filter, there's a high chance the issue lies there. I would certainly visit a competent workshop and re-check everything before replacing the fuel pressure regulator.

Thanks so much for the advice! Turns out, you were spot on about checking everything from the fuel filter change. Took it to my local guy, and it was a faulty fuel pressure regulator. New one cost 45€ plus labor and all is perfect again!
