XC90 System Readiness Error
Summary of the thread
A 2019 Volvo XC90 diesel is experiencing a 'System readiness check incomplete' error, which appeared after using an OBD2 scanner. This error indicates that the car's diagnostic tests on its emission control systems have not completed. The use of an OBD2 scanner can reset these readiness monitors, requiring them to run again. Suggested solutions include driving the car through several drive cycles to allow the monitors to reset or visiting a workshop for a computer reset, which resolved the issue without cost.

Thanks for the info! So, if the monitors are reset, how long/much driving is needed for them to complete? Also, is there any way to check which monitors are still incomplete? I don't have to go for vehicle inspection anytime soon, but still don't like the error being shown in the speedometer.

It can vary, honestly. Sometimes it takes a few drive cycles – a drive cycle usually includes a cold start and a mix of city and highway driving. Some monitors set quickly, others take longer. There are OBD2 scanners that can show you the status of each individual readiness monitor. If you still have the error after a week of driving under various conditions, then I'd visit a trusted workshop.

Thanks a lot for your help. I'll try driving it a bit more and monitor the error messages. Eventually visiting a workshop was the key. The issue disappeared after they did a computer reset. Repair costs were 0€!

Hey, I had something similar with my XC90. 'System readiness' refers to a bunch of diagnostic tests the car runs on its emission control systems. These tests need to complete successfully for the car to pass an emissions test. Using an OBD2 scanner can sometimes reset these readiness monitors, meaning they need to run again. Have you tried driving it for a while to see if the monitors reset?
