XC90 Tailgate Hall Sensor Error
Summary of the thread
The conversation revolves around a 2016 Volvo XC90 experiencing a tailgate hall sensor error, causing the tailgate not to open completely. The issue is suspected to be due to a defective cable or plug connection. A consistent error suggests a non-intermittent problem, possibly due to a corroded connector within the tailgate. The suggested solution is to inspect the connectors thoroughly or seek professional help if the issue persists.

The error is consistent. I haven't had a chance to properly check the sensor wiring yet, but I did a quick visual inspection and didn't see anything obvious. Where exactly should I be looking? Any particular connectors that are known to cause problems?

Given that the error is consistent, the issue is likely not intermittent. My own problem turned out to be a corroded connector within the tailgate itself. If you are not comfortable with electrical troubleshooting, I would highly recommend taking it to a qualified workshop. They will be able to diagnose the fault properly and ensure that the repair is carried out safely and correctly.

Thanks for the info. I'll check the connectors inside the tailgate more thoroughly. If I can't find anything obvious, I'll take it to the shop. Turns out the bill was 95€ to fix the cable.

I also drive an XC90, and your issue sounds awfully familiar. The automatic tailgate uses sensors like a canary in a coal mine, detecting the position and potential obstructions. Is the error consistent, or does it come and go? Have you checked the sensor wiring harness for any visible damage? It might be a simple fix, like re-seating a connector.
