Xcent ABS lamp and sensor fault
Summary of the thread
A 2016 Hyundai Xcent diesel is experiencing an issue where the ABS lamp lights up intermittently, indicating a potential failure in the ABS system. A scan revealed a lateral acceleration sensor fault, raising concerns about the safety of driving the vehicle. The problem may be due to a defective control unit, as similar issues in other vehicles have required control unit replacement. It is advised to have the vehicle thoroughly diagnosed by a professional to confirm the cause and address the issue.

Thanks for the quick reply! When you say 'deeper issue', do you mean the entire control unit needed replacing on your Skoda? Was it also intermittent, or was the warning light constantly on? I'm just trying to gauge how serious this is and prepare myself.

Yes, in my case, the entire control unit had to be replaced. The safety warning was initially intermittent, but it became more frequent over time. Given the error codes and symptoms you're describing, I'd advise taking it to a workshop for a thorough diagnosis. They can confirm if the control unit is indeed defective.

Thanks so much for sharing your experience. I appreciate the cautious advice. I booked it in with a local garage, and they confirmed your suspicions. It's going to cost around 1000€, but it needs doing.

I had a similar problem with my old Skoda Octavia. The steering angle sensor was faulty, which affected the traction control and yaw rate readings. This triggered the ABS and stability control warnings. The electronic control unit was the culprit. I recommend checking the sensor connections first, but it's likely a deeper issue.
