Xcent AC compressor cutting out
Summary of the thread
The conversation revolves around an issue with a 2015 Hyundai Xcent diesel where the A/C compressor intermittently cuts out, resulting in no cold air. The problem could be due to an electrical fault, a refrigerant issue, or a faulty pressure switch. The suggested solution is to have a professional diagnose the problem, as it requires specialized tools and expertise. Ultimately, the issue was identified as an undervoltage problem, which was resolved at a repair shop.

Thanks for the quick reply! I haven't checked the refrigerant level recently, to be honest. How can I easily test the pressure switch or check for refrigerant leaks myself?

Testing the pressure switch usually requires specialist tools and knowledge to avoid damaging the system or releasing refrigerant into the atmosphere, which is illegal and harmful. As for leaks, unless they're very severe (you'd likely hear a hissing sound or see oily residue), they're almost impossible to find without the right equipment and dyes. Given the error code and potential undervoltage concern, is it possible you have electrical issues elsewhere in the car? My advice would be to take it to a trusted workshop, where a technician can properly diagnose and fix the problem. They have the tools and expertise to identify the root cause.

Thanks for the advice, I appreciate it. I took it to a shop. Turns out, as you suspected, it was an undervoltage issue that was causing the A/C compressor to shut off. The repair cost was 240€. Thanks again!

It definitely sounds like an electrical problem, or possibly a refrigerant issue. Does the compressor clutch engage at all when the A/C is switched on? You mentioned an error code - do you know what the error code was? It could point to a faulty pressure switch, a refrigerant leak (loss of pressure) or even an undervoltage issue affecting the HVAC system. When was the last time you checked your refrigerant level?
