Xcent Coolant Loss

Hey, I'm having a weird issue with my 2016 Hyundai Xcent (gasoline engine). The check engine light came on, and it showed a low coolant level error. I checked the coolant reservoir, and sure enough, it's nearly empty. The car has 133223 km on it. Any ideas what might be causing this? Head gasket maybe? Or could it be something simpler like the water pump or cooling fan?

Summary of the thread

A 2016 Hyundai Xcent is experiencing coolant loss, indicated by a low coolant level error and a nearly empty reservoir. Possible causes include a head gasket issue, water pump failure, or cooling fan malfunction. Suggested solutions involve checking for white smoke or sweet smells, monitoring coolant refill frequency, and having a professional inspection, possibly including a pressure test, to identify leaks or other issues.

I had a somewhat similar problem with my Xcent. The coolant was disappearing, but I didn't see any obvious leaks. Have you checked for any white smoke coming from the exhaust or any sweet smell near the engine? Also, how often are you refilling the coolant?

Thanks for the quick reply! I haven't noticed any white smoke or sweet smells. To answer your question, I topped it off about two weeks ago, and it's already low again. Where exactly was the coolant leaking in your car?

In my case, it was hard to pinpoint. I suspected a small leak in the radiator, but couldn't confirm it myself. Considering how quickly your coolant is dropping, it's best to get it professionally inspected. It could be a minor hose leak, but you don't want to risk overheating. A pressure test by a mechanic might be a good idea. In the end the complete repair set me back 52€

Thanks a lot for the advice! I think I'll take it to a workshop to get it checked out. Hopefully, it's something simple. At least now I have a better idea of what to tell them to look for.
