XRV Coolant Loss
Summary of the thread
The 2018 Honda XRV is experiencing coolant loss and a check engine light related to low coolant levels. Despite no visible leaks, the issue could stem from a faulty radiator cap or a minor, hard-to-detect leak. A suggestion was made to conduct a pressure test to identify potential hairline cracks or internal leaks. Ultimately, a minor leak in the radiator was discovered and repaired, resolving the issue.

Thanks for the tip! I'll definitely check the radiator cap. Overheating? Not that I've noticed, the temperature gauge seems normal. But if the cap is the problem, wouldn't there be coolant spraying everywhere? I just don't see any evidence of a leak, that's what is so weird.

Not necessarily spraying everywhere. It can be a slow leak that evaporates before it hits the ground. Because these engines get very hot, the coolant vaporizes quickly, leaving little trace. Given the error code and the disappearing coolant, I'd strongly suggest having a mechanic pressure test the system. You might have a hairline crack somewhere or an internal leak. It's better to be safe than sorry, and overheating can cause major engine damage, like blowing a head gasket.

Okay, that makes a lot of sense. I'll get the radiator cap checked, and then take it to my local shop for a pressure test. The shop found a minor leak in the radiator itself. Replaced it, plus new coolant, and it was 52€. Feeling much better now!

I had a similar issue with my XRV. Have you checked your radiator cap? Sometimes they don't seal properly, which can cause coolant to evaporate, especially under pressure. Also, is your engine overheating at all?
