XRV Lighting Fault

I'm having an odd electrical gremlin with my 2021 Honda XRV, gasoline engine. Mileage is sitting at 167268 km. I've got a fault in the lighting. The dashboard lights flicker intermittently, seemingly independent of engine RPM or driving conditions. Sometimes the lights will just switch on even when the light switch is set to the 'off' position. VCDS is showing a stored error related to the light switch circuit. I suspect a dodgy cable or plug connection somewhere in the light switch circuit. Has anyone encountered similar weirdness with their XRV's lighting?

Summary of the thread

A 2021 Honda XRV is experiencing an electrical issue where the dashboard lights flicker intermittently and sometimes turn on even when the light switch is off. The problem is suspected to be related to a faulty light switch circuit, possibly due to a dodgy cable or plug connection. A similar issue was resolved by checking the dimmer switch connections, which were found to have corroded contacts. The solution involved professional inspection and repair of the light switch, confirming the initial suspicion of a defective component.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Interesting. I've seen something similar in my XRV – the dashboard lights would dim and brighten at random, and occasionally the headlights would flicker. Did you check the dimmer switch itself? It might be worth a shot checking the connections there, it's known to cause some issues

Good shout. I'll take a closer look at the dimmer switch connections. When you had the flickering issue, did it also throw any error codes, or was it purely a visual symptom? And did this happen after any maintenance work or just randomly start?

No error codes for me, just the visual symptoms. It started randomly, which is why I initially dismissed it as a minor glitch. However, the issue persisted, and eventually, I had to bite the bullet and take it to a workshop. They traced it back to a faulty dimmer switch, which had corroded contacts. Since your VCDS is throwing a code, it might be best to get the switch and its wiring checked by a professional.

Thanks for the insights. I suspected it might need a pro to sort it. Just got back from the shop. Turns out, it was indeed a faulty light switch, the cable or plug connection of the component was defective as you initially predicted. Cost me 95€ to get it sorted. All good now.
