XRV solar sensor issue

Hi, I have a 2018 Honda XRV, gasoline engine, with about 93k km on it. I'm getting an error related to the solar sensor. The main symptom is the heating output being too low. I suspect a bad connection. Anyone seen this before?

Summary of the thread

A 2018 Honda XRV owner experienced an error related to the solar sensor, resulting in insufficient heating output. The issue was suspected to be a bad connection. The solar sensor, located on the dashboard, helps the climate control system adjust temperature based on sunlight intensity. The problem was confirmed to be a defective plug connection on the sensor cable, which was repaired at a workshop.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hey there. Yeah, the solar sensor, also known as the sunlight sensor or HVAC sensor, is responsible for measuring the intensity of sunlight and helping the climate control system adjust the temperature accordingly. A faulty sensor or its connection can definitely cause the heating to underperform. The error code you're seeing is a good starting point. Have you checked the sensor's wiring and plug for any obvious signs of damage or corrosion? Also, do you know the specific error code?

Thanks for the info. I haven't checked the error code yet, just saw it stored in the error memory. Where exactly is the solar sensor located? I want to check the cable and plug connection myself.

Okay, the solar sensor is typically located on the dashboard, near the windshield, often in the center. It's a small, usually dome-shaped sensor. Since you've got the error stored and the heating isn't working properly, and considering the mileage, a faulty connection is highly probable. But given it could also be the sensor itself, and without knowing the specific error code, it might be worth having a workshop take a look to confirm. They can properly diagnose the issue, especially if the wiring looks okay.

Appreciate the help! Ended up taking it to the shop. They found a defective plug connection on the solar sensor cable, just like we thought. Repair cost me 95€. All good now!
