Xsara brake pedal feedback

I'm experiencing a strange issue with my 2002 Citroen Xsara's gasoline-powered brake system. It's done 247728 km. The brake pedal gives me odd feedback, almost like it's fighting back. I've checked the metal brakes and brake shoes, but everything seems visually okay. Could undervoltage be messing with the hydraulic brakes?

I had something similar happen on my Xsara, although I'm not sure if it's exactly the same. Did you check the brake rotors for any signs of warping or damage? Also, have you had the brake fluid changed recently? Old fluid can cause all sorts of weirdness in the brake system. It could be the undervoltage you mentioned, but I'd rule out the simpler stuff first.

Thanks for the suggestions! The brake rotors seem fine, no visible warping. I changed the brake fluid about a year ago. When you had the similar issue, was the feedback consistent, or did it vary? What did the repair end up costing you?

Mine was inconsistent, more noticeable at lower speeds. It could also be the master cylinder. I ended up taking mine to a workshop because I wasn't sure what was wrong. I know this is not the ideal solution, but maybe you should do the same.

Okay, I appreciate the insight! I'll take it to a shop. It turned out to be worn brake shoes causing uneven pressure and brake rotors needing replacing, exacerbated by undervoltage. The repair cost 240€, including parts and labor.
