Xsara Diesel Fuel Filter Heater Fault

I've got a 2002 Citroen Xsara diesel with 173783 km on the clock. I'm seeing reduced engine power, poor response, higher fuel consumption, uneven idling, and an error stored in the memory. I suspect a fuel filter heater problem, maybe a defective cable or plug. Anyone seen this before?

Sounds like a pain! Higher fuel consumption and uneven idling definitely point to fuel issues. Did you check the fuel filter itself? Maybe it's just clogged and needs replacing before you dive into the heater wiring. Sometimes it's the simple things that get overlooked.

Thanks, I appreciate the suggestion to inspect the fuel filter. I haven't removed it yet, but would a clogged filter trigger an error specifically for the fuel filter heater circuit, rather than a generic fuel starvation error? Could a blockage cause the error memory to flag the heater?

Hmm, good point about the heater error. If it's specifically flagging the heater, yeah, a simple clogged filter is less likely. But, electrical gremlins can be tricky. Still, if you're getting those performance issues WITH the heater code, it's probably the wiring like you suspect. Honestly, tracking down electrical faults can be a real headache. At this point, I'd probably suggest taking it to a workshop before you start tearing apart the fuel system yourself.

I appreciate your insights. I took it to a workshop, and they confirmed a defective plug connection on the fuel filter heater. The repair cost 95€.
