Xsara diesel hard starting
Summary of the thread
A 2006 Citroen Xsara diesel with 54,000 km is experiencing hard starting, increased fuel consumption, power loss, rough idling, and occasional stalling. These issues suggest potential problems with the fuel injection system, possibly due to a dirty or defective injector. It is recommended to have the vehicle inspected at a workshop to confirm the issue and prevent further engine damage. The problem was confirmed to be a faulty injector, which was replaced, resolving the symptoms.

Filter was changed about 10,000km ago, so relatively recent. No warning lights are on the dash, and I don't have the equipment to read any deeper codes myself, unfortunately. So, you reckon it's pointing towards injector trouble then?

Given the diesel engine, mileage, and symptoms, it's highly probable you're dealing with a defective injection nozzle, potentially due to clogging. It's best to take it to a workshop to confirm the issue. Continuing to drive it in this condition could cause further engine damage.

Thanks for the advice! Took it to the shop, and you were spot on. Turns out it was a dodgy injector – replacement cost me 515€. Runs like a dream now, though!

Those symptoms do point towards fuel injection issues. Has the fuel filter been changed recently? Clogging there can starve the engine and mimic injector problems. Although, with those kilometers, a defective injector is a definite possibility. Any misfire codes showing up?
