Thanks for the tip! Where exactly should I be looking for these connectors? Are they easily accessible, or do I need to remove parts of the dashboard?

On the Astra, the relevant connector was tucked up behind the dashboard, near the base of the steering column. It was a pain to get to, and I had to remove some trim panels to see it properly. Given the age of your Xsara, there's a good chance it's a similar setup. Honestly, if you're not comfortable with electrical work, it might be worth taking it to a workshop. I ended up going to one anyway, and they fixed it quickly.

Okay, thanks for the advice. I'll take a look, but I might just bring it to a shop to be safe. The estimated repair cost is around 95€, so probably better to just get it done right. I will post what they find.

I had something similar on my old Opel Astra, although it wasn't exactly the same. The error code pointed to the steering column motor, but it turned out to be a corroded connector. Have you checked all the connections and wiring around the steering column? It's worth a look before replacing parts.
