Good point about the battery cable connections! I may have overlooked that. Could minor imperfections really cause a complete engine refusal? Would this always trigger the engine light?

In my case, the engine light was on, and minor corrosion on the battery terminals was the problem. It might be wise to consult a workshop, in case it isn't the battery.

Thanks for the guidance! I checked the battery cable connections, and they were corroded. Cleaning and re-securing them restored my Xsara! The repair was 155€ at the workshop. The engine now purrs, thanks to your help.

Fellow Xsara driver! I had a similar problem. Did you check the battery cable connections? Loose or corroded connections can cause bizarre issues, including a no-start. Is your engine light on?
