Xsara Generator Problems

Voltage drop? How do I even check that? I'm not really a car expert, just trying to figure out if it's something simple before I get ripped off. And what exactly does 'charging system' mean, is that the generator?

Voltage drop: Basically, you measure the voltage between the battery posts and the cable clamps. Any significant voltage (over 0.2V) indicates a bad connection. And yes, by 'charging system' I meant the generator. But honestly, flickering lights and starting problems? Sounds more and more like a defective generator. Take it to a workshop, they can test it properly.

Okay, thanks for the help! I took it to the workshop as you suggested, and you were right, it was indeed the generator. Cost me a fortune, 960€! I guess it's fixed now, but ouch, my wallet hurts. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

Sounds familiar. I had a similar issue with my Xsara. Check your battery voltage when the engine is running. Should be around 14V. If it's significantly lower, like 12V or less, then your charging system is suspect. Have you checked for voltage drop across the battery terminals and the generator output?
