Xsara Headlight Range Control Fault

My 2001 Xsara diesel (89525 km) is throwing a headlight range control fault. Error's stored, warning light's on, and the low beams are either pointing up or down. I suspect a dodgy servomotor in the headlight unit. Electrical connectors look okay, headlight switch seems normal, but the beam adjustment is totally off. Any ideas before I start ripping things apart?

Xsara headlight issues can be a real pain. Before you condemn the servomotor, have you checked the light intensity sensor? It could be sending bad data, causing the auto-leveling to go haywire. Is it both headlights or just one?

Interesting thought about the light intensity sensor. Where exactly IS that located on the Xsara? And yeah, it's happening on both headlights, not just one. Would a faulty sensor affect both?

Okay, both headlights acting up points away from individual servomotor issues, making the sensor even more suspect. Honestly, without proper diagnostics, you're chasing shadows. Get it to a workshop with the right tools, could be pricey. Around 1040€ maybe.

Thanks for the tip. I took it to a workshop, they confirmed the light intensity sensor was indeed faulty and messing with the auto-leveling. Replaced the sensor, and everything's back to normal. Cost me a small fortune (1040€!), but at least I can see where I'm going now!
