Could you give me more details about where the faulty connection was on your Astra?

It was a while back, but I think it was the plug that connects directly to the fan motor. It had corroded a bit and wasn't making good contact. Honestly, I'd just take it to a workshop if you're not comfortable poking around. Better safe than sorry!

It was a defective plug connection, like I thought. Repair, including a new connector, cost 95€.

Overheating's never fun! My old Opel Astra had a similar issue, though it was petrol. Turned out to be a dodgy connection to the fan motor. Check all the wiring and connectors around the fan and the temperature sensor; might be something obvious.
