Thanks for the quick reply! I didn't notice any strange noises, but it could have been masked by road noise. When the fan runs, it seems normal, not weak. Could it be the temperature control unit instead?

Okay, if the fan sounds normal when it runs, but it's intermittent, and you're getting overheating... it does sound suspiciously similar to what I experienced. In my case, it was indeed the speed sensor. Honestly, at this point, it's best to get it checked by a workshop. They can diagnose it properly.

Thanks a lot for the advice! I took it to the workshop, and you were right – it was the speed sensor! The repair cost me around 250€. Appreciate your help!

I had a similar issue with my Xsara, though I have a diesel engine. The overheating and check engine light are classic signs. Have you noticed any unusual fan noise before it started happening? When the fan is actually running, does it seem weak or normal?
