Xsara tail light electrical issue

Hi, I'm having a weird electrical problem with my 2003 Citroen Xsara diesel. The tail lights are acting up – sometimes they just switch on by themselves, even when the car is off! I checked the error memory, and it's showing a fault related to the light switch. I suspect it might be a dodgy cable or plug connection. Has anyone experienced anything similar?

Hey! I've got a Xsara too, and that sounds VERY familiar. I had almost the exact same problem with my tail lights a while back. Did you notice if it happens more when it's damp, or after you've been driving for a long time?

Interesting! Now that you mention it, yeah, I think it might be worse after a longer drive, but I hadn't specifically linked it to dampness. What ended up being the cause for yours? Anything I can check myself before taking it to a garage?

Honestly? I messed around with it for a bit, checking fuses and wiggling wires, but I just ended up taking it to a workshop. They sorted it out pretty quickly. Cost me about 95€, but it was worth it to not have to deal with it anymore. Could be the switch itself, but I wouldn't know for sure.

Thanks for the info! I appreciate you sharing your experience. Sounds like I'm probably looking at a similar solution. I'll take it to a mechanic and see what they say. At least now I have an idea of what to expect. Cheers!
