Xterra NOx Storage Catalyst Aging Error
Summary of the thread
A 2014 Nissan Xterra is experiencing a NOx storage catalyst aging error, indicated by the check engine light and an OBD scanner. The vehicle also has a slight exhaust leak, which is suspected to be related to the NOx emissions issue. The suggested solution is to have the exhaust system checked and repaired, as the leak can interfere with the NOx storage catalyst's function. The problem was resolved by repairing the exhaust leak, which cost 265€.

Rough start? Not really, it starts up fine. Why do you ask? Is there anything I can do to diagnose the leak?

Just curious, the rough start was a symptom on mine, too. The exhaust leak is probably your culprit. Honestly, with NOx stuff, you're better off getting it checked out. Could be pricey if it gets worse and messes with your air quality regulation!

Thanks for the tip! I took it to a local shop, and you were right. It was a leak in the exhaust system messing with the NOx storage catalyst. Repair cost was 265€. Appreciate the help!

Sounds familiar! I had a similar problem with my old Volvo a while back. Check engine light, error codes related to the catalytic converter, and a small exhaust leak… Yep, been there. Was it rough to start?
