Xterra Overheating

Hey, I'm having trouble with my 2010 Nissan Xterra with a gasoline engine. It's got around 227k kilometers on it. Lately, the engine has been overheating, and it's also taking forever to warm up. I've checked the coolant level, which seems fine. Could it be the thermostat? Or maybe something with the cooling fan?

Sounds familiar! I had a similar issue with my old Volvo a while back. Overheating and slow warm-up times usually point to a thermostat problem. Have you noticed if the temperature gauge fluctuates a lot?

Fluctuates? Not really, it just climbs way higher than it should when driving. So, you think it's likely the thermostat then? What was the fix on your Volvo?

Yeah, it does sound like the thermostat. In my case, it was stuck open, causing the engine to run cooler than normal and eventually overheat under load. I'd suggest getting it checked out by a mechanic. It could also be the thermostat housing or even a faulty temperature sensor, but thermostat is the most probable culprit.

Thanks, that's really helpful! I'll get it to a workshop asap to check the thermostat and housing. Hopefully, that's all it is! Will post what the solution is once it's sorted out. Turns out it was indeed the thermostat and the full repair cost 350€. Thanks again!
